Mestre Acordeon is an active capoeira master who embodies the link between traditional capoeira and the contemporary trends of this rich Afro-Brazilian discipline. A native of Bahia, Brazil, Acordeon graduate with the legendary Mestre Bimba and has been teaching in the US since 1979. He has recorded CDs, written books and magazine articles, produced documentary films, and has won grants and honorific titles such as the Tinker Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2008, in recognition of him as pioneer with 30 years of continuous work in the San Francisco Bay Area and abroad, the City of Berkeley proclaimed October 18th as Mestre Acordeon Day.
